« on: February 10, 2007, 02:00:46 pm »
What are the best albums you've heard so far this year? put your top albums of 2007 (and albums which aren't out yet, but interest you) in this thread, because i need some recommendations.

My top album so far is "Scarsick" by Pain of Salvation. Looking forward to new releases by Porcupine Tree, Ours, Riverside, and Phantom Planet.

What the hell?
It's February! There are still 10 months to come...

I'm waiting for new releases from Machinae Supremacy, Sonata Arctica and Wintersun, mostly.
We're open to such things, we've even talked many times about doing it with Inja, but in a way that's redundant because we can already get Erica

Boris with Michio Kurihara - Rainbow: Easily the best so far. Stoner/psych rock.
Air - Pocket Symphony: Crap. They take the worst they've done so far and do more of it. Electronica/soundscapes.
Do Make Say Think - You, You're a History in Rust: They try some interesting things, but ultimately fall very short. Skip it. Jazz/postrock.
Eluvium - Copia: Excellent. Second best, behind Rainbow. Takes the best he's done so far and makes it even better. Piano solo/ambient.
Explosions in the Sky - All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone: By-the-numbers postrock. It's the best they've done so far, but I don't care for it. Postrock.
Dinosaur Jr - Beyond: This is good. It's like a more polished Bug. Indie grunge.
The Arcade Fire - Neon Bible: I didn't like Funeral, and this is worse than Funeral. They seem worse for wear after the sudden stardom. Indie rock.
!!! - Myth Take: Slightly less good than Louden Up Now, mainly because of the lack of anything matching "Me and Giuliani...". Dance-rock.

There's probably a few I've missed because I was scanning the RYM upcoming releases list for things I've listened to. Whatever.

I'm looking forward to hearing:

Polysics - Karate House
Chara - Union
Reel Big Fish/Zolof the Rock and Roll Destroyer - Duet All Night Long EP
Son Volt - The Search
Van der Graaf Generator - Real Time
Indochine - Hanoi

Uhhh, i know. The whole point is that when a new album comes out over the next year, you can come to this thread and mention it.

...Right.

Anyways, Year Zero and the new Paramore album are the only two I'm looking out for. And the Machinae album if that's out this year.

The top 3 so far:

Swallow The Sun : Hope
Therion : Gothic Kabbalah
Moonsorrow : V - Hävitetty

I'm looking forward to new albums from Nightwish, Finntroll, Turisas and Deathchain (at least those are definitely going to release something in 2007), and hoping that Tiamat, Rapture, Sethian, The Wicked and Amorphis also release something new this year.

The promotional audio (phone calls, that crazy desert footage etc) got me all excited about Year Zero. That kinda crap doesn't normally effect me, but alot of thought was put into it. And what I've heard that's been released so far is fantaaaaastic.

Should be an awesome album. :)

My top album so far is "Scarsick" by Pain of Salvation.

Fucking right.

I'm still looking forward to 16 Volt's new album "FullBlackHabit". Aside from that I'm not really panning the skies looking for albums to fall.
