It's really alot easier than it would seem at first, you just take out the extension cards (graphics, sound, network and so on) and the mobo (aside from the PSU, DVD/CD drives and harddrives, but those are easy).

When switching cases, you usually leave the RAM, CPU and CPU cooler attached, since there's really no need to take them out, besides, the cooler is a very good carrying handle when lifting the mobo out of a cramped case.

And if you are unsure.. just find out what motherbord you have, and ask? It's fairly easy. And it's not very complex. Most connectors just fit in the holes they were made for.

Well, if you look at the motherboard and have the ports (mouse, USB etc) on in the upper left corner, the PCI ports below (either 4 or 7 of them, i'll return to this later) and the CPU somewhere in the middle, you most likely have an ATX card.

Now, depending on the amount of PCI ports (including AGP and PCI-E ports if there are any) you could have mini-ATX or full sized ATX.

If it's not anything like this, please try to illustrate what it looks like.

If your motherboard looks something like that (note the positioning of the left-most parts, the others doesn't really matter), it's ATX, if not it's most likely ITX or BTX (the latter is true if you have new-ish DELL, the former if it's a very small computer (or barebone)

Now, if it IS ATX you won't have any trouble at all finding a case, since it's still the most widely used mobo standard around. if not, you might have more trouble.

Now, who made your PC? is it an OEM computer? (Compaq, HP, Fujitsu Siemens, DELL etc), or was it a smaller local computer store or similar? See, if it's an OEM machine, you might have trouble actually getting teh motheboard out of the old case, since they like to glue the board onto the spacers and other crazy stuff to prevent people from doing stuff like this.

Just read the big writing on the box, that says what model it is, and tell us. If it doesn't say on the box, it says on the MB itself. But as Swezor pointed out, ATX boards are the most common kind, and for that matter, most new antec-cases comes with attachment-points for several different kinds.

Then you'll have no problem transferring it into a new case. Just unscrew the screws attaching it to the case, try to remember where the spacers were positioned before unscrewing those as well, and then transfer everything into the new case, a good order to do everything is this:

1. Try to remove as many internal cables as possible.
2. remove PSU
3. Remove optical drives and harddrives (aswell as floppies or frontpanels)
4. remove motherboard
5. prepare new case for motherboard (attach the spacers to the new case, as well as the backpanel thingy)
6. insert motherboard into new case
7. insert PSU
8. insert HDDs and optical drives.
9. attach all cables and test run.
10. redo the wiring to make it look good (optional)
11. Put everything together and attach the sidepanels
12. Go.
