My friend said he was getting it. Do you think Windows will be gay and make it so only one copy can be used on one computer?

God forbid you'd have to pay for software yourself.

I cant think of any type of software that gladly lets you install it on as many PC's as you like.

No non-free OS has ever allowed it to my knowledge, although prevention measures may not have been as powerful as they are today.

No more can you install WoW or any other online game on multiple machines, no - you will not be able to install vista everywhere you wish =P

This company is kind of famous for it now, actually.  But you're right that this sort of thing is rather in the minority.

No non-free OS has ever allowed it to my knowledge, although prevention measures may not have been as powerful as they are today.

Mac OS X has no protections against it.  You can install that thing on as many computers as you want, and it will neither try to stop you nor track you.  It is, of course, in violation of the user agreement, but there's no mechanism in place to try and stop you.

no - you will not be able to install vista everywhere you wish =P

I suspect you're right about this though :)

Stupid Vista. Its RC fucked itself up on my machine (damn I typed machinae in first place), just by rebooting. It feels kind of laggy compared to win 2k/xp. And there are sooooo many confusing icons and stuff... you won't be able to find anything at first.
We're open to such things, we've even talked many times about doing it with Inja, but in a way that's redundant because we can already get Erica

Don't you dare install Vista on Machinae >:(

Honestly though, that was the case when I first started using OSX... after a week or so of use, it was actually pretty intuitive, and I suspect Vista will be too.  Microsoft has an extensive team of people that test usability, so I suspect it won't be a tremendous problem.

I can't say I like Microsoft as a company but I do enjoy some of their products.

Yeah, they're called the general public.

Sorry...had to get that one in. Shutting up now.

The irony there is that I believe that's more true of Apple than Microsoft.

What I think you're thinking of is using the general public as beta testers.  And in that respect, I fully agree with you :)

But honestly, with something as advanced as an operating system, you pretty much have to.

Most Linux distros have an "unstable" or "experimental" version as well, which includes newly added stuff that needs to be tested. Difference is, of course, that you can go get the former version. But that's true for Windows, too. There probably won't be much of interest that is Vista-exclusive for the first half a year to a year anyway.

Why pay for something when you can get it for free? I guess you've never pirated ANYTHING in your life. :P

Just because he points out how dumb you're being doesn't make him a hypocrite.

I'm dumb for pirating something? Well I guess that makes most of the forumers here dumb too.

you're dumb if you act as though it's your right to pirate stuff, that's all. And i don't think you actually do.

the "gay" comment doesn't help though..
