Windows Vista Home Basic
200 euros or 255.55$ or 135.95 pounds

Windows Vista Home Premium
400 euros or 511.10$ or 271.90 pounds

Windows Vista Ultimate Edition
500 euros or 638.88$ or 339.87 pounds

Windows Vista Business
650 euros or 830.54$ or 441.84 pounds

Windows Vista Enterprise
800 euros or 1,022.20$ or 543.80 pounds

Basic does fuck all. It's a fucking lemon, apparently it doesnt even have mspaint.. Business, you can get free serials for on the Vista site, Enterprise is the ridiculous moneymaker, and Ultimate is for the gamers, which they are fucking milking the hell out of, since they're really trying to market Vista as the next-gen gaming platform.

I will not pay £350 for a pretty interface nor will i pay £350 for all the invetable Vista-exclusive games.

That's just as bad as console-exclusive games. Microsoft are excluding themselves too much..

EDIT: all these figures are wrong, apparently it's even more expensive than this list, if anyone can find an up-to-date list, please post it here to further my point.

I prefer OS X for personal use and work. I prefer Linux and BSD for servers. I don't like Windows but I'm a PC gamer so I'm kinda stuck with it. Best solution? Get a Mac, build a PC and upgrade/replace it all the time and put a KVM on the two. Leave the Mac on 24/7 for regular use and just boot the PC and hit the switch on the KVM or shortcut keys when you want to play games. It is also nice to have a NAS with a RAID5 array for a few TB of redundant storage.

I don't know too much about computers and stuff, but since my boyfriend is a geek, I now know more about it.

I like Mac OS X very much, but I don't know if it is just because my boyfreind could do so many things with it without complications. (My parents' pc with internet is a bit damaged... so I was used to complications.) (He might be able to do so many things because he is a geek and has the knowledge, and I am not...)
But my boyfriend's iBook and his father's iBook got broken quite early. I don't know if it is the fault of "iBook" or of apple/mac, so I can't say more about it.

Windows:
As I said, my parents' pc is a bit damaged... and most of you will laugh at me when I say it is Windows ME (We once had a problem with it and I asked ~ 3-4 geekfriends and they all laughed.)
My new pc with windows 2000 is very nice :)
Windows Vista...
I like the windows games :) really something for me as a kid... like baking cakes e.g.
For me there are too many things that you don't need...
Maybe I am too little comfortable, or I have learned to be a geek now.

Everything here has to be seen as a noob comment because I am not a computerfreak...

I've never bought an OS. I thought about buying Vista, but the prices just put me off entirely.
I'll just buy a new computer that has vista bundled, as it's generally cheaper that way.

I'm giving it a month before pirated versions become available. Sorry, but £350+? Nowhere near worth it.

They also said it'd be damn near impossible to improve on black and white films with no sound. But omgz, we now have 7.1 surround sound high definition colour flatscreen televisions.
Just wait and see. :)

I said damn near. I didnt say it would be in no way possible.

It'll take a long time, however; but I bet there are crackers working on it as we speak.

There is a sizeable population of people with lots of technical knowhow who wish to affect the population at large for no payment. The mean ones become people who create viruses. the nice ones crack games and OSes for the good of all mankind...

Not to derail a perfectly good Vista thread...

I saw the title of this thread and figured I should probably mention that I'm typing this post on my PC while I have #machinaesupremacy open on IRC on my Mac right next to it.
