This is sorta in reply to "What game music would YOU like to hear?" and "Song idea".

I used a Commodore 64 in the 80's and understood the SID reference in Machinae's titles. Although I had a fair amount of games, the only game tune in Machinae's songs I recognized was Bubble Bobble. I guess I never had the other games. So, unfortunately, I rarely listen to the Sidologies. [Exception: I really like the opening melody of Sidology 3.]

I just wanted to point out that Machinae Supremacy's style is enjoyable even without knowing anything Commodore 64. I first learned about them by finding Gianna Sisters on a remix site, but I really got hooked after hearing Hero and others and liking the lyrics and the style.

I haven't really had much C64 experience myself, I recognize a few of the melodies used, but same as you, I fell in love with the music in the stylish sense. Hero is one of my all time favorite songs, ever.

Even though I have played giana a long time ago, I don't know the melody... but if you want to get into stories, I fell for machinae by listening WOPN.

People on the irc-channel were always yelling "machinae!", and I was pretty sceptic about a band with such a name... but then one time I heard gianna, and that was it!

I wanted more, more moreee!!

btw. haven't tuned on to wopn in a long time...

I'm glad you posted your thoughts about this... This might be a good place to explain a few things... First of all, any person who believes Machinae Supremacy to be a game cover band needs to re-examine the info available... And second, Machinae, although consisting of pretty much normal people (well, some of us :]) who enjoy gaming and whatever just like anyone else, is not about gaming... It's just something we share with our listeners and the general youth community of today and it does sometimes enter into our lyrics ... What is it they say? "Write about what you know?" ... We _DO_ love the particular SID sound and that was something we had and used a long time before we ever did anything game related...

I had a C64 when I was a kid... And an Amiga... And a NES ... And so on... Jonne and Tomas as well have a very console-thick past... But that's just kids today, right? Everyone's a geek about something, doesn't matter if it's sports, computer, console games or %¤!"# horses...

Peace.

It's my job to keep SID elite.

WOPN, what is that?

eleeton, you really havent been around for a while. Get on the band wagon. Come listen to music on Freenode Radio http://radio.freenode.net/ (formerly known as WOPN). And as a gamer I love Machinae Supremacy's music because I reconize the tunes, but they arent simply copied. However, I feel their best work is in their original works.

I'm not a total gaming fanatic either, but I love Machinae's music. I'm glad they aren't only a cover band or game music band. When I first heard them, I had no idea about the gaming connection, just love the music!  :D

I guess I never had the other games. So, unfortunately, I rarely listen to the Sidologies.

I listened to Sidology 1 the other day and forgot how good it is. Sidology 1 flows smoothly, and is enjoyable, now that I hear it again. Sidology 3, on the other hand, sounds like a bunch of game songs appended together. I like the first tune, but don't recognize any of the others, so I don't get as much out of Sidology 3.

i guess i'm a gamer, but i never had a C64 or Amiga or NES, cause there were no such things in russia that time. I'm a PC user for a quite a long time. I am a musician, guitar/bassguitar player. I'm also a web designer. And the only reason i wrote all this crap is to say: these thing's have nothing to do with Machinae's music - you can be a gamer, a porn actor, a space shuttle pilot - so what? It's about the music, not about occupation. The music is cool - i don't care who writes it and what's the reason for this person to write such a music. I just lile the music - so i listen to it  8)

P.S. My personal favorite is Masquerade,  dunno why. :)
