I don't use AVSs generally, and I don't see much point using a modern skin when there's a good enough classic skin.. (less memory)

But don't let that stop you. :P

If you make a classic skin, people (like me) can use it in XMMS too (open source media player, "winamp clone").

Oh noes. I use foobar, but in linux I could use it if you make a classic skin. Classic skin is always better than the new modern shit ;)

I can't find the classic skin, plus AVS is one of my programming hobbies ;) but I don't know how to make Modern or Classic skins so. .... . . .. . ..

I use Winamp every now and then. Mostly when I do something else and listen music on background. When I play games or something else that takes memory and resources I use 1by1-player.

I've done couple of Winamp skins (classic) ones and it's pretty... hard job the way I do it. Of course you can use some software like Winamp skinner but they are mostly costly, not free. I did my skins this way:

I got somewhere the basic skin.

Then I modded all the buttons, numbers, backgrounds, sliders and everything else one piece on time.

It took quite a long time and lots of effort but it worked quite well. I tried skinner I mentioned above but they did not look as fine as that other method. I hope that this helped some...

I used Winamp until I get meself a Macintosh *cries*

I used to work with a guy who was part of the Nullsoft dev community. I could ask him how to do the things you've asked, but I'm back at university now. Pity :P

I already have a machinae skin...
I've had it so long it's like a natural part of my desktop, it wouldn't feel like home without it.

Oh, I just got the approximate shape of the MaSu symbol in AVS (hard as hell BTW), but still will take me along time to finish  :P

I have the classic skin, too. I believe it's lying around on the crappack page (I think that's where I found it).

Winamp classic skins
« Reply #14 on: September 27, 2006, 08:08:04 pm »
Here's a link to Vortex's Machinae skin (classic style) for Winamp.

Here's some info about making classic Winamp skins:

In general, making a classic-style Winamp skin involves hand-editing a lot of bitmap files. Every graphical element that Winamp uses is placed in a certain position in one of the skin's bitmap files. If you want to make your own classic skin, here's what to do to get started:

1. Download the Winamp 5 Classic Base Skin (from the Winamp.com forums).
2. Read Making Classic Skins (from Winamp.com's Development section).

You can also search for alternative explainations of all the little graphical elements. One I found was Winamp Skin Templates, it was lacking in some parts but still very useful.
