Song tunings.
« on: September 18, 2006, 11:37:10 pm »
Hi,

I'm new here and this is my first post.

I've been wondering about the tuning of Machinae Supremacy songs. It sounds like the songs on Deus Ex Machinae and Jets 'N' Guns OST are all in E-Standard and the songs on Redeemer are in BADGBE. Is that correct or are there some songs that are in other tunings?

You're right on the Jets N' Guns tuning, but as for Redeemer, the tunings switch around.

Tunings used on Redeemer are standard E, standard C#, standard B and A (no "d-drop" or similar). 6 strings.
The bass guitar always uses B-tuning, with exception for RWA (A).

Elite (C#)
Rise (B)
Fury (B)
Ronin (B)
Kaori Stomp (C#)
Hate (B)
I Know The Reaper (B)
Seventeen (E)
Rogue World Asylum (A)
Through The Looking Glass (B)
Oki Kumas Adventure (E)
Reanimator (E)
Empire (B)

I guess it's not Drop A, but A "standard tuning" - just like E standard tuning, but every string tuned down a quint, 7 steps.

You'd need quite heavy strings for that, though.
We're open to such things, we've even talked many times about doing it with Inja, but in a way that's redundant because we can already get Erica

I've found that some songs don't REQUIRE the tunings to play them.

You may also need an enlarged nut slot to fit the lowest string, depending on what you do. I bought an Ernie Ball 7-string pack and just dumped the high E.
That's the problem with heroes, really. Their only purpose in life is to thwart others. They make no plans, develop no strategies. They react instead of act. Without villains, heroes would stagnate. Without heroes, villains would be running the world. Heroes have morals. Villains have work ethic.

I think it's played in C# Standard. I'll double check later though.

Just a note to those running off to change their strings to heavier sets:
Remember to refit (don't know the technical term here...) the neck so that it doesn't bend too much and readjust the intonation of your guitar, so it doesn't sound like crap.
Just thought I'd add that.
I dropped the tuning of my little Flying V clone to play a Monster Magnet song, and with the skinny strings and all, it just sounds silly and it gets out of tune in about a minute.
I'll probably keep it at standard E tuning from now on ;)
