Cans vs Bottles vs Draft
« on: July 20, 2006, 11:31:17 am »
Now, this is somethign i would liek to get to the bottom of...

Theres Coke and theres Pepsi. But to me theres many more within them.

Maybe its just me but have you noticed how they all taste different depending on how the drink is delivered?

When i goto a bar and get it draft i prefer Pepsi to coke.

When i have a can i prefer Coke to Pepsi.

When i have a bottle (plastic) i prefer Pepsi to Coke.

Now i know that draft is that gel shit mixed with lemonade. But why are cans and bottles different? Discuss.

And of course, the answer to the ultimate question?

Coke or Pepsi?

My answer: Depends on how its served :)

I prefer water.

But you've missed out glass bottles. You can't have them with anything else than coke.

True, but to be honest, maybe its just the Uk, we don't have the glass bottles. Me and Akakori went to a friends bday party, asked for a coke and they gave us glass bottles. It was like "WHOOOOOOOOOA like the ones off the advert!". Shame they were diet coke and i nearly puked.

I kind of suspected that, actually.

They are quite rare around here, but they do exist, and although they're relatively expensive, everyone prefers glass coke.

I remember my trip to London last year. Everything was to goddamn cheap. I'd give all our glass coke for those prices any day. :P

You lucky bugger :o Do they collect the glasses up and clean them or just recycle them and remake them? Cause not only are the bottles distinctive, they are pretty bloody heavy/thick.

Whats all your favorite coke/pepsi's then? :D

(lol, i'm typing using walkers french fries)

Glass bottles are the preferred containers for Coca Cola.

Coca Cola is always preferred over Pepsi Cola.

The light variants of Coca Cola vs. Pepsi, I'm more unsure of. Diet Coke got a better flavour, but the aftertaste of the sweeteners are worse than the Pepsi Max.

hmmm... coke > pepsi in all forms. dont even get me started on diet, it's like coke with all the goodness removed.

draft > glass bottle > can > plastic bottle

although i usually end up buying it in a plastic bottle for the convenience factor.

For me it's not important which one I drink...
I just drink it...
I would even drink very cheap coke from the cheap supermarket...
And as I don't buy it myself and drink only sometimes if my parents have bought it or I scrounge off my friend at school or I am at a party where it is just there already, I don't care.

I think perhaps I prefer Pepsi because the bottles have blue labels :P

Plastic bottle: Pepsi
Glass bottle: Coke
Can: Coke
Draft: Pepsi

Overall: Pepsi

As for the 'diet' drinks, Pepsi Max has not taste, so Diet Coke wins it.

It could be that the taste differs depending on what material you place your lips against while drinking - drinking from plastic bottles seems more comfortable than metal cans to me (and the latter is a better heat absorbant, usually feeling slightly colder when you touch it). To see if this could be the case, pour the drinks from a can and from a bottle into two glasses, let them have the same temperature and see if they taste different.

If they still do, It could be that canned and bottled Cokes have slightly different ingredients, to make them better suited to their plastic/aluminum envorinment. That's a very uneducated guess. :p

Or it could be self-deception. Do the above, pouring an equal amount of coke canned and bottled coke into two glasses. Have a friend randomly switch around the glasses with the help of a coin-flip while you're not looking (the friend should of course keep track of which is which). Then taste both of them and see if you can guess the right drink, and in the long run perform better than chance. If you can, I remain at my uneducated guess that the ingredients are slightly different in order to suit the container. Another guess would be that the aluminum or plastic reacts with the Coke somehow, marginally altering the drink over time (sounds more unlikely). But if you can't guess the right drink more than half of the time, I remain at the guess that it's due to the material of the container you drink from that creates the different tastes.

I drink sodas maybe a few times per year, never really liked the taste of carbonated drinks. When I was little, I always got "bubbles" in my nose when drinking them. :)

Plastic bottle: Pepsi.
Glass bottle (If i could have one): Coke
Can: Coke I guess.
Draft: Pepsi.

So I go same with Fiindil. Pepsi wins!
Coca-Cola light is better than pepsi max.

When I was little, I always got "bubbles" in my nose when drinking them. :)
Yup same here xD
