Aight, some info on the next album (after RRE), if we ever get there (I mean, if this signing now proves NOT to be the end of the universe)... But be advised this album won't be released tomorrow... It'll be a while before this one is out.

... Let's see... We've got a bunch of songs that are half-finished - we've made a lot of stuff for them, but they still don't fit together well and lack parts, or lyrics, or / and / etc...

But we've got like 15 almost-songs, and plan to make 10-12 of them into the third album... As you know, there'll be a remake (a +vocals = "real" song version) of Flight of The Toyota on the album. One song, called "Dark City", which can be heard a teeny bit from in Prelude To Empire, is a song about our home town, Luleå, more or less.

There might be some vocoded stuff on it (like in the intro to Fighters From Ninne), and there might even be another "real" ballad this time (like Flagcarrier... Ronin and Reanimator don't count as ballads, imo). The reason I say "might" a lot is because we don't know yet if we'll finish all songs, or if we'll put them on this album or site-release them, or push them onward to the album after the next one... You get my point.

We have decided we want a "dryer" sound on our third album. That means basically less effects on everything, less reverbs, delays and such effects, and a closer, in-your-face dryness to guitars, drums, vocals... the works. This sound may make some songs less "epic" than on Redeemer, but what they lose there will be gained by intensity and attitude.

Overall, the album might be a wee bit softer than Redeemer when it comes to the song material. But that is something that's hard to predict before the songs have been properly recorded.

Yeah, ballads are cool. I *love* Flagcarrier, I'd really like to hear more like that from Machinae!

How about including a live track (as a final track bonus, or similar)? If you have the opportunity to record one in good quality, that is. Or would that be inappropriate? :D

I don't personally think live-tracks belong on a regular album. It messes with the entirity of the album as a whole. But I don't know what'll happen... First I guess we should get some good recordings of live gigs, we've yet none. :)

After the inevitable upcoming tour, you should have enough footage for a DVD? ;D

I can only dream..

I hate to say it, cause I'm torn on this ... but I agree. I don't like live tracks thrown onto an album. It just seems so off to me, like it doesnt belong. At the same time though, I'm DYING for some good live recordings of Machinae. So I wouldn't be upset if one ended up on an album at all, just so long as I can hear one someday =-P

Of course, that could just be based on my sheer desire to see y'all live. :P

Edit: Ya know, a dual-disc is always a future possiblity. Or a cd/dvd as Fallout had said. I dunno, I'm the ru on wanting one somehow though. :P
An 'interactive' cd is also a possiblity. I've seen music video/live recordings included on those so you can get them if you want them, but it doesnt detract from the album experience itself when youre just listening.

That's why I thought it could be an extra, like, not even listed in the regular tracklist.

But the best solution would probably be a set of more recent and higher-quality live site releases.

What does Spinefarm think of live recordings?
