The Forum Book Club
« on: June 21, 2006, 10:50:46 am »
so everyone knows book clubs, reading clubs, book circles, yada yada yada.

they always read bad books.  or have bad discussions.  because they never have anyone cool in them, like us.

so i propose a book circle/club for us.  its summer, most of us have some good free time on our hands (and those of us that dont might be able to spare the time), and we have a penchant for intellectual discussion (whe we arent completely off topic).

maybe we all read sci-fi books.  maybe we read lots of other things.  right now, its just an idea.

(i suggest Neuromancer as the first book, as a desire to have a discussion about said book was my reason for thinking this up in the first place, but i'm open to anything!)

what do y'all think?

blah blah blah blah Neal Stephenson blah blah.

I just bought The Cobweb by Neal Stephenson and J. Frederick George. For the sake of (my) convenience, let's do that one. It claims to be a now-classic political thriller.

I'd love to do this but I'm gonna pass. I don't yet have the money to buy ANYTHING, and most the books you'd all suggest aren't the sorta thing I'd read anyway. (:

(You know, I'm not taking a 25 minute bus just to go get one book.)

I would participate, but I am low on the monies front, which rules out buying books, and, last I checked, the library here is mostly run-down.

Ah, what's wrong with you guys? Stop whining, if you'd really love to do this, you wouldn't mind about the price of a bus ticket. If I'm correct, it's nothing like you had to do this.

Anyway, I read Neuromancer about half a year ago, of course I loved it. It's a classic. Even though you can sense the 80's fashion and esthetics through the story, but... Overall IMHO it's pretty timeless. Too bad I haven't got the time yet to read the rest of the Sprawl trilogy.

No money is an excuse! Books are... not expensive.

I've also just ordered Bret Easton Ellis Lunar Park.

Neuromancer, yay.

I'm reading Weaveworld still.

I will probably participate, although I had planned to read Brave New World (Between The Protomen and Huxley coming out, not to mention having heard very good things about it for some time and never having read it). I was also going to order 1984, since it was suggested along side it at Amazon.com and I'd heard wonderful things about that.

However, if the book sounds entertaining I'll put those on hold and read it. I need to start reading again. Hehe.

I've had the same books collecting dust for months now.
I never read anymore.
