Need a simple movie making program
« on: May 13, 2006, 07:15:52 pm »
I've put together a small video in VirtualDub, but it refuses to add audio. I've tried everything. So I need a program* in order to put an audio track on a DIV-X encoded AVI file without affecting its quality. Any suggestions?

*A program that doesn't suck, is free and with no adware - there's got to be one of those somewhere

As much as I hate to say it, Windows Media Player is actually fairly servicable for a free video editing program. You import your whole video as one file and then import whatever audio you need and just drag and drop!

My Windows Media Player can't do anything besides playing movies. Where can I get the version you speak of? I'm on Windows 98 btw.

VT: Sure you're not talking about Windows Movie Maker? And sorry, Spiff, that one's for XP only...

I was just about to pimp virtual dub... the program usually works very nice for me. Lets have a lookie *downloads vdub* when you goto... hmmm

Get a copy of cdex and convert the music you want to add to wav... add wav file then select your compression setings.

The latest version was included in service pack 2, I think. See also

That's what I tried, but I couldn't get it to work. The resulting movie didn't have any sound whatsoever. While previewing the movie in Virtualdub, the sound also started too late and ended too early, even when I cut it to be exactly as long as the movie. That doesn't make any sense. :P Or maybe it's just my old computer, and the fact that it had to go through 1.3 GB of uncompressed video while playing it.

I'll see if they have Movie Maker installed on the XP computers in school.

Back when I was making my Player One video on my shitty pld PC, I had to cut the video up into chunks of roughly 1 minute, otherwise the sound would stop syncing up with the video, so there is a definite chance that it could be a performance issue.
