my favorite band just lost its bassist. :(

Pain of Salvation's bassist split from the group due to difficulties resulting from a cross-country move.

His basslines are VERY involved and colorful, and he can play a mean fretless.

this is a sad thing.

The sad thing is, they never had any major shows other than BE recorded, and daniel isn't fond of bootlegs, so I'm never going to be able to see Kris do the intro to People Passing By, or the awesome basswork in Nightmist and King of Loss.

You think you have it bad? Pain of Salvation have pretty much commited to never play in the United States to enforce their political views. As a consequence, I doubt they'll ever tour in Canada as it's probably not financially sound to come over seas just to play in Canada.

Thanks for getting me into a new band :P

I love a good bassline, so I had to go get a Powertab of People Passing By to hear it...then I got the song. I grabbed a couple other ones too and needless to say they are great. Shame they lost their bassist though, from what I've heard he's damn good.

I know, that's why I said I'll never get to see him (or them) play. He apparently is planning a solo career, though.

Fuck yeah. XD

You'll find a lot to love in Pain of Salvation. The Perfect Element's my all time favorite album.

Remedy Lane is the best album I bought in 2005.

And I bought a shitload of albums in 2005. I've more than doubled my collection. I'm really scared to add up my HMV purchases through last year. Hopefully I'll slow things down now that I have a collection. But I'll agree. Remedy Lane > BE > Perfect Element Pt. 1 = Entropia > One Hour...

But then again. One Hour By The Concrete Lake > Most other albums too.

Machinae is one of my favorite bands of all time, don't get me wrong (and I say that about very, very few bands). But nothing has ever touched me musically like The Perfect Element has. The concept behind that album is too big for words, although the way the lyrics transfer these ideas is simply amazing. TPE is about (and this is an extremely minimalistic description) how society systematically creates outcasts/"defects" and shuns them. Granted, it's partially a love story between two of these such people (but I typically hate love stories anyhow, so it only works in this sort of context). The lyrics are purely emotion-laden, and the instrumentation also transfers emotion in ways I could have never imagined.

I can upload it to yousendit if you want.

and, in my opinion, TPE>Entropia>Remedy Lane>One Hour..>BE>12:5.

high-quality VBR mp3. that's the +1 bonus track version (Epilogue). for some reason, the europeans on the official Pain of Salvation board seem to have a hard time finding that song. I have no idea why.

I found this band through internet piracy.. and then bought all six of their albums and their BE DVD (I actually own three versions of TPE, haha >_>). I hope some of you will do the same.

Ever since I've gotten into them, they've been alternating positions in my top 3. As of right now, I'd say they're number one. When I first started listening to them (when Steve's Quest was released and someone posted it on another forum) though, Coheed and Cambria were my favorite 'cause I was still on a Good Apollo kick. Right now they're number one though :P

Also, turns out one of my friends had 12:5 for about a year, so I borrowed it from him and listened to it. I think I'm gonna have to track their albums down, because I don't know if any place that sells music around here will have 'em
