other video game remixes
« on: February 12, 2006, 08:09:51 am »
i know this borders on blasphemy, but i do listen to video game remixes other than Machinae <gasp>. those who've frequented ocremix.org know that there's a lot of uninspired mixes obscuring pieces of genious. i've stumbled on a few i like, but random trancy shit actually gets me out of the gaming mood rather than into it. i would be sifting through these on my own except my school's network refuses to even acknowledge the site exists (as opposed to the normal Websense censorship). obviously when i do go home, i want some pieces that matter. a few of my favorites:

zircon - when all hope has faded
ailsean - terra in black
ashane - zealous entropy

sadly none of these artists collections peer Machinae, but you can't blame me for hoping.

Have you listened to the OCRemix stream? (http://oc.ormgas.com/ocmain.php).  Nice to have on as background while gaming or surfing, and makes it easy to stumble across really great remixes without having to sift through the site's whole collection.

I've really into game music & remixes, but it's hard to recommend any because a lot of what you'll like depends on what games you've played, and what types of music you're into outside of the game remix world.  I listen to many types of music so I like a good portion of the stuff on OCRemix. One I can think of off the top of my head that you might like based on the ones you posted is 'BloodyHell' by Kaijin, Ailsean.  Great mix of Bloody Tears from Castlevania 2.

Also, check out Dwelling of Duels if you haven't (http://dod.vgmix.com/).  There are remixing competitions that require the mixers to use real instruments instead of just synthesized, so you can get some really great guitar work on there.

This post has totally not been of any use to this topic whatsoever. Thank you.

OCRemix has some pretty cool stuff...
But VGMix is like, 100 times better.  ;D

Unfortunately, vgmix is down right now :( but it should be back in a few months....

I'm currently working on sorting out the crap from OCR's 1250 archived remixes. so far I have around 90 verified to be of quality and 80 baleeted. OCR has a handful of truly wonderful remixes (the jazzy ones really stand out), and it's worth sorting through the homogenous shitty techno remixes to find them.

www.vgmix.com also has some great rock remixes. I'd recommend you look into Ashane's stuff, his cover of the Final Fantasy: MYstic Quest battle theme is awesome, as is his nine-minute Chrono Trigger rock epic, Zealous Entropy. If you ever enjoyed Chrono Trigger, you MUST listen to this masterpiece. it is the one true prog rock epic for this game.

apparently the site is down for the time being, so I'll upload the song to yousendit.

McVaffe - "Cutman Sonata" (OcReMix)

This is a beautiful piano arrangement of the Cutman theme. One of my personal favorite music tracks, video game or not. :)

i appreciate you going to all the trouble to post Zealous Entropy for me, but it was in my original post - one of the pieces that inspired me to create this thread.  :-\

i do appreciate all the links and suggestions, i'm working with the ones i can right now.

I can't download anything from vgmix.com anymore :( Don't know if its Firefox or just the site hates me. So I use OcRemix for the moment. My fave songs are:

SGX- Save Me (ICO Save music trance remix)
Wingless - All Nations Rise (WoW/Guild War orchestral)
AmIEvil - DeathOnTheSnowfield (FF6 Terra's theme accoustic guitar)
Darkesword - TwinklePark Classic (Sonic Adventure Twinkle Park happy-dance)
Virt- Blood of Ganon (cool Zelda medly rock) - up on VGmix when its back

Plus pretty much most of Instant Remedy's c64 stuffage http://www.remix64.com/member_martin_ir.html

nah, the original post didn't really provide any specific information on the song to begin with.

Ailsean's "Dancing Mad Yet Again" is just incredible. I know it's just him dubbing guitar over..somebody else's remix [the author's name slips my mind right now] but it's epic.

I never saw the appeal in Dancing Mad.
