Games & Music
« on: August 19, 2005, 07:00:42 pm »
I was just playing Burnout 3 on my xbox, and at the same time I had Deus Ex Machinae pumping through my speakers at a ridiculously high volume. And I realised... How much better I play the game (and how much more I enjoy it) when certain music is playing. While tracks like Player One and Throttle & Mask were on I was driving almost flawlessly. It was fantastic.

So are there any particular albums/songs that you put on when playing games to get the most out of them?

Depending on the tempo/heaviness of the song playing, depends on how I play RTS games. If I have quieter songs playing I normally play defensively (normally my Total Annihlation/ AOE2 tactic). If the heavier playlist is on, then I'll attack, normally for stuff like AOE1. For RPG's I combine both, except for Baldur's Gate where Ninja is put on repeat because of how great my thief is.

haha Masugn always trip my focus too. I put them on my "writing" playlist but I always have to skip them when they come on because they derail my train of thought.

As for games. I don't generally listen to music when I game.

I was listening to Therapy? when playing mario golf the other day though.

I still sucked.

I need to play through Sanitarium again with Devil Doll- Dies Irae playing in the background. Shame I know how to solve all the puzzles now tho.

I finally won it last night (friday morning). Would have been better with Dies Irae playing tho. The last level is one of the most fucked up things ever.

When I'm playing on the computer I either just listen to the game music or turn the radio on.

When I'm playing xbox, I'll just listen to whatever's in my stereo, or what I saved to the console. My playlist on that thing is something like 130 tracks now.  ;D

Still not as long as the one on my computer...
That's the problem with heroes, really. Their only purpose in life is to thwart others. They make no plans, develop no strategies. They react instead of act. Without villains, heroes would stagnate. Without heroes, villains would be running the world. Heroes have morals. Villains have work ethic.

I generally prefer in-game or no music while playing. I sometimes play strategy games with my own playlist in the background (though the only RTS I've played for several years, Total Annihiliaton, has an excellent in-game soundtrack, so there's no need for it there), but it isn't often that I play FPSs with it. I don't often play full-on action FPSs (like Unreal Tournament and the like), and for more "realistic" games, I find music distracts me, or more correctly, makes me unable to hear much of the in-game sound indicating enemy activity.

If I'm playing some sort of brainless game (like a fighting game - I must admit to being a fan of fighting games), or a racing game (which isn't often), I like to have some action-oriented music, though.

Hey, out of all the songs in my playlist (900 and something and rising daily) 4 are slipknot songs. Foobar likes to overplay them. Slipknot have 77 plays on my acc. U2 (of whom I have about 15 songs by) only have 92.  Damn foobar and it's Masonite tendencies!

"We are 138, we are 138, we are 138"

Ehm, yeah, it's on your recent tracks, and it's the kind of song that sticks to your head forever and ever and ever.

Now, it's on my recent tracks as well...both original and live version.

Anyway, Dead or Alive > Tekken

That was all.
