Two proposals about J'n'G OST.
« on: July 19, 2005, 01:30:36 am »
First: I can't find shop music among the list of songs free to download. Will it ever be released in hi-q? It's one of my favourite tracks from the game… :-\

Second: would you guys ditch the effete 1.0 vorbis encoder in favour of new, shiny and powerful Oggenc2.6 using aoTuVb4 (libVorbis v1.1.1)? :D
At least you could both reduce the size of downloads (say, 128 or 160 kbps instead of 192) and improve quality as well. ::)
(It is rather obvious that vorbis 1.0 screws the c64's noise effects, failing badly even in front of CBR MP3.)

And by the way, thank you very much for the wonderful ubersoundtrack! :D

Cheers from Moscow.

Ah swell, this again... The ogg that's bad...

It's been suggested before, but for some reason I never managed to find any new ogg on the vorbis website. Why is that? The site simply sucks, or some more dubious reason?

I will download and try this new oggenc of yours, since you were kind enough to provide a direct link...

The shopmusic doesn't exist in any other form than what's in the game. Sorry.

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear enough. Basically, I like that format, but there was a huge progress since 1.0 release. Funnily enough, 99% of work behind that progress was made by a third-party enthusiasts like Garf (famous for his high bitrate "GT3" tuning, now Garf works for Nero) and Aoyumi (current unofficial Vorbis developer, it is him who wrote the famous "aoTuV" tunings). Latest official release, Vorbis 1.1 consisted of a plain aoTuV b2 code with some additional bugfixes.
The whole situation went bad because of the dumb management, and that is why the official site may be considered dead. Or, more like "comatose". ;D
The latest (and apparently, the best) unofficial encoder out there is aoTuV b4 merged with Vorbis 1.1.1 (1.1.1 is fairly fresh but another bugfix-only "official" release) — the one I provided the link for.

I will download and try this new oggenc of yours, since you were kind enough to provide a direct link...
You're welcome. :D
You may also have a look at the last alpha of LAME MP3 encoder, LAME 3.97a11, which also shows some exceptional quality (for an MP3 encoder of course).

It's never bad to update your software, anyway. ;)

I'm almost sure I have a shopmusic file...
Ah, I would be very grateful if you find it! That is one of the best in-game tunes, IMHO.

Pretty sure I've linked directly to it before (or oggdropxpd for the GUI-folks).
What do you mean the new album isn't called Brojectiot groader?!

Yes... I need a gui plz, I don't have the urge to submerge myself in CLIs. I'm a musician dogdamnit, not a haxx0r.

Are those third-party things incorporated in that OggdropXPD?

The "Lancer" branch of development from 'blacksword' that I linked to is currently the most bleeding edge. Yes, it incorporates the latest fixes from the Xiph team (currently libvorbis 1.1.1), plus aoTuV (currently aoTuV beta4), plus his own speed optimizations.

It's wicked fast.

Yes, Archer/Lancer is a vorbis speed optimisation project. The only difference between it and the original oggenc/oggdrop compiles is 1.5—2 times increased speed.

Though, I encode my files right through Foobar2k, so CLI is not a problem. ;D

Bam, shop music!  I can convert that to MP3 and post it if people want, but you have to send me a private message.

What for? It will cripple the quality even more than outdated vorbis encoder.
Besides, everybody can do that. ;)
