Daylight Dies - Dismantling Devotion: Melodic Death/Doom
Obsidian Gate - The Nightspectral Voyage: Symphonic Black
Forest of Shadows - Departure: Doom
Rapture - Silent Stage: Melodic Death/Doom
The Chasm - Deathcult for Eternity - The Triumph: Death
Twelfth Gate - Summoning: Progressive Thrash
Whispering Gallery - Shades of Sorrow: Doom
Bal-Sagoth - The Chtonic Chronicles: Symphonic Black/Heavy Metal
Beseech - Sunless Days: Gothic and was the only thing out of this new stuff I found boring

I seem to be coming across lots of good doom metal lately.

Wolfmother are a good Aussie band, I've known about them since before they went mainstream, but now I'm getting a little sick of hearing them.

Symphony X hasn't been in my playlist for a while now... it usually makes it in there randomised with Apocalyptica (metal done entireley with Cellos replacing the guitars).

Try Led Zeppelin. Or Rush.

The bands that influenced the bands you listen to now can actually become new favorites, if you haven't heard them before.  :)

That's the problem with heroes, really. Their only purpose in life is to thwart others. They make no plans, develop no strategies. They react instead of act. Without villains, heroes would stagnate. Without heroes, villains would be running the world. Heroes have morals. Villains have work ethic.
