For new users: Welcome, read this! ;)

Okay, per request from users and after a -very- short discussion with the Powers That Be:

This is the official welcome-thread of new users. Use this thread to tell us hi, and so forth, so that the forum won't be completely spammed with new topics called "Hey, i'm new here!", ok? ;)

That said, enjoy. =)
Oi, is this when I get a huge sig-image, start whining about "moar sid" and make nonsensical arguments to no good?

Ok, I agree with the single thread for all newbies idea, and I agree that repetitive welcome threads can get a bit irritating; but "fuckwad"?

Yes, and welcome to all newbies n stuff.

*greets new guy*

Yeah, we know :-)

Welcome aboard. Do stay for a while. Oh, and watch out for magicman, he's scary.

As for defining oldbie...to be able to call yourself an oldbie, you must have been around in the Golden Days of Wintress, Sobella, Gravehill and the like. The Days of Golden Cows and Holy Macaroni...

Ah, I remember the days...

Oh, hadn't noticed this thread yet. I'd only read the music forum, since I was mostly interested in the music. Hi everyone!

I bumped into Machinae when Alan Cox said it was "excellent hacking music" in August 2002. Downloaded some stuff (in Ogg Vorbis, yay!); INSERT INTO yabbse_messages (ID_MSG, ID_TOPIC, ID_MEMBER, subject, posterName, posterEmail, posterTime, posterIP, smiliesEnabled, modifiedTime, modifiedName, body, icon, attachmentSize, attachmentFilename) VALUES got hooked, bought the CD, and eventually wandered into the forums a week or two ago.

My music taste is basically anything that has guitars and good lyrics. That's usually the quieter stuff, so Machinae is at the heavy end of my spectrum, but the unique sound and the great lyrics will probably keep it in my playlist forever. My favourite song varies...I love Cryosleep ever since I saw Pitch Black. I also like Tempus Fugit and Flag Carrier a lot. And Winterstorm. And Soundtrack to the Rebellion. And...

Incidentally, since this is a newbie thread, what is the accepted abbreviation of Machinae Supremacy? I don't mind typing it out all the way but it seems a bit silly if we're on their forum to spell it out all the time. I understand that MaSu is a no go, and MS is already reserved for the forces of evil, so what is it?
"Sometimes emotion clouds my sight as I rejoice in life
I know to treasure my own zest for I am still young
I let my inspiration savior me from mundane strife
and I refuse to go unheard, my truth unsung"

I was just poking my head out in the days of Sobella and Gravehill, Wintress had already gone, and Holy Macaroni was ressurected for page 7 in about june.

Do I count as one?

Nah, only if you were here when Holy Macaroni was first active. I'm not going to check, but my guess is up until october/november-03. It was a long-lived thread, started in the beginning of august, and I know it was still active in the middle of september, when I found the strenght to read through it all.

That doesn't mean you're a newbie, though. not oldbie != newbie, to put it in mathematical form.

And greetings to Lourens as well. Personally, I use MaSu to abbreviate. Where did you get the idea that that was a no-go? Have I missed something?
