:o

Wow...that takes time :) You should try Power-Tab!. Its freeware :)

There are probably better out there(like guitarpro3 or something); INSERT INTO yabbse_messages (ID_MSG, ID_TOPIC, ID_MEMBER, subject, posterName, posterEmail, posterTime, posterIP, smiliesEnabled, modifiedTime, modifiedName, body, icon, attachmentSize, attachmentFilename) VALUES but this one works just fine... and v2.0 is just around the corner(have been for some years now)  :)

notepad is fine! all these fancy tab programs are unneccessary in my opinion

ASCII-tabs are ok, but the timing and note durations are usually wrong in them. I'm not saying that they are always right in GPs/PTs either, but you can correct them pretty fast if you know how. :)

And I have found it nice that with GP/PT you can get at least some kind of a picture from a riff or the whole song just by listening the tab. That is IF the tab is almost correct.
This is quite hard from ASCII-tab.

Again, this is just my opinion, like yours. :)

if you cant deduce a songs rythm/ timing from a ascii tab I think you need to practice your instrument some more tbh

Well, that's not the problem. But lets look for example the Skvate's Apex tab: he has put all the notes just one after another, no note durations (the tab is otherwise good :) ).
It's a bit slow to try to learn the song without listening the song over and over to hear which notes play longer/shorter than the others. This is REALLY annoying especially in solos. But if you have decent GP/PT tab you can hear straight away how does the solo go, or even use speed trainer to play it on smaller tempo.

AND if you have good PT/GP tab, you can start rehearsing the song immediately. Sometimes even without listening the song.  Lets say I have a GP tab with 2 gtrs, bass, and drums, heck I don't even need the original song to practise: I just mute one of the guitars and start playing along.

However, I have seen very good ASCII-tabs and I have used them many times. But now when I'm have found PT&GP, it's hard to return to the old times... Especially when most of the ASCII tabs are either tabbed wrong or incomplete or there is only one guitar.
GP/PT tabs are seldom incomplete and usually quite right since e.g. Powertab.net won't accept too incomplete or wrong tabs.

You know... you can always mute those other instruments or just lower down their volume. :)

But PT is good program, even better than GP when thinking some aspects of the proggy.

skvate r u ever goin to tab out the outrun part of apex ultima, its very depressing only missing the last minite and a half of a song:'(

Hmmmmz....perhaps. If noone else got time to do it that is.....gotta clean up the tab as well..its messy...and i dont really play it like i tabbed it any more either...

The band doesn't have tabs. All the songs are in their heads. =)

And I think they're quite busy at the moment, so no help from there.... :/
