The Big Debate: Old or New?
« on: September 30, 2004, 04:38:55 am »
This issue has been cropping up a few times. Some reminise about the old days when Gravy was here and they had meaningful conversations; others are happy to be here and now and the near insanity we have.

personally I can see this thread becoming the closest to flame we've ever had. I'm gonna go make popcorn.

You've read the Cows thread and the Holy Macaroni threads haven't you? The "old" group was just as capable of posting instanity when it came down to being insane. Anyhow, I'm not sure just who can be nostalgic anymore. Most of the posters of today were definitely not there yesterday. However, it is quite true that you won't find as many "deep" threads today as back then. I suppose in a way, there was more variety in the past.

But, there is more Machinae music available now than back then, so that is much much better.

*sigh* You know my vote.

I think it's become too fast paced and many posts don't have _it_. At least last night was hysterical.
I still love this forum, but I'm just not reading everything, there's alot of scrolling on my part.

Bring on some interesting life questions!!

I doubt this is related, but as the transition from "then" to "now" progressed, the average age of the regular posters has lowered, as time has gone on the forum has got younger

o0o0oh hows that for a mind fuck

Sorta makes sense i guess, the older people will have be entangled in music world more so and will be quicker to hear of such bands as Machiane Supremacy.. its only a case from there of m.s' good word being spread from the older generation into the younger generation..

I am your personal mind fuck, brain bonking right here.. uh huh.. oh yea. =)

yea, smeagols advent was the big turning point...  ;D

just kidding... it's just the recent weeks that I thought parts of this forum have gone wild. There are so many posts, a high number of them rather spammy in nature (is that a word? "spammy", sounds cute, maybe I write that down for later use) I can hardly keep up reading. Maybe the karma thing brought some unrest, too. And, hmm, the age plays a part, I guess.

The golden age (which didn't stop when smeagol arrived) as I refer to it had this incredible balance between highly philisophical substantial posts and that exhilarating insanity.

I'm not completely dissatisfied with the current state of the forums and don't start to sing summer of 69 or something, just my opinion.

...I hereby declare the advent of the bronze age! Someone should keep a forum chronicle...

Give it a couple of millenia and we'll be in the Iron Age

Iron... sounds good. Maybe we're all robots by then, so it makes sense.

Personally I'm loving the new times. I feel like I'm in a family here - a slightly deranged family, probably commited as a group to St. Madeline's Hospital for the Mental Unfit and Unstable - but a family all the same.

I joined ages ago, but at first I very rarely posted, and that was because everytime I opened a thread I would see a 1000 word essay written by Gravehill about the state of his lovelife and I would just go: "I'm not reading that." and leave.

Nowadays, posts are bareable to read. Often their short and irrelevant but at least they don't bore the crap out of me.

yeah, i find i have an attention span of about 30 seconds, unless what im reading is VERY interesting.. so when people are blabbering on about random shit i just ignore it..

EDIT: oh and i see you base the "new" times on Smeagol :p
